THE TECHNOLOGY IN RACERS’ NEW HELMET
Actual impacts do not follow a straight line. When the helmet hits the asphalt at an angle, rotational forces can be generated that are transmitted to the head. It is a critical, fast-paced, and complex dynamic.
The AGV Sphera system was created to help manage this dynamic during the critical milliseconds of impact.
Thanks to the innovative RLS - Release Layer System technology, it integrates mobile exterior panels designed to shift on micro-bearings in multiple directions. At the moment of impact, they can slide in the direction of the force and, when necessary, detach from the structure.
This controlled movement helps dissipate some of the rotational energy, reducing the transmission of forces to the head.
6-FOLD REDUCTION IN CONCUSSION RISK*
In laboratory testing, AGV Pista GP R3 with RLS technology showed a 6-fold reduction in concussion risk, demonstrating the system’s ability to contribute to the management of rotational impacts.
A result that takes the new protection dynamic beyond theory and into measurement: movement, release, energy dissipation.
*Based on laboratory testing conducted at the Aragon Institute for Engineering Research, University of Zaragoza. Reduction calculated as the arithmetic mean of frontal, right lateral and left lateral impact results, converted into AIS2+ concussion risk probability using the BrIC metric.
