The AGV AX-8 Evo helmet and Gautier Paulin were key players in this memorable Grand Prix which opened the Motocross World Championship season in the new night-race formula.

Off-road motorbike racing, like all other forms of sports is evolving to meet the demands of television and this new format has been chosen for races outside Europe from 2014. This year the races will consist of one MX1 round, one MX2 round and a Superfinal featuring the top 20 riders from the two previous heats.

The race at Qatar is run at night on a track laid out inside the Losail autodrome which is famous for hosting MotoGP and makes good use of some of the lighting system already in place.

The new format proved very popular and, as you might expect, the races were very tight with Paulin taking 3rd place in the overall standings of the MX1 class.

The Kawasaki official rider made its debut on the KX-F 450 adorned in new white livery in honour of its new local sponsor QMMF. The AX-8 Evo helmet looked spectacularly aggressive and eye-catching matching the colour scheme of the bike and the rider's leathers.

David Philippaerts was unlucky after a fall and a poor start that prevented him from doing any better than 12th place.

The Honda Gariboldi Racing rider was two places behind the Scot Shaun Simpson who was wearing an AGV AX-8 Evo helmet and was dressed from head to toe in Dainese clothing.

The nest race will be on 10 March at the Thailand GP.
