David Philippaerts continues to make progress after his 4th place finish in the MX1 class in the opening round of the "Internazionali d’Italia" and in the second race confirmed his form with yet another 4th place.
The Honda Gariboldi Racing rider with his AGV AX-8 Evo helmet was fighting for a place on the podium in the premier class right from the start but ended his day with 6th place in the Elite class due to problems with his forearms that prevented him from riding with his usual fluidity.
“I could have done better in the second heat" – said the former world champion – "but my arms got very stiff and with all the potholes on the track, I couldn't push much harder. Even though the bike is still quite new to me, we made some progress in the set-up as you can see from MX1 round where I came back from 8th place and, until mid-race, I was up with the leaders which didn't happen last week at Riola Sardo”.
Among the riders in this second last round of the "Internazionali d’Italia" we also saw the British rider Shaun Simpson who is now getting a feel for his TM Factory Racing 450. The Scot, who this year will be wearing a AGV AX-8 Evo helmet and the new Dainese Off-Road clothing range, started off his day with a 6th place in the MX1 class then came home in 5th in the Elite thus clearly demonstrating the better feel he has with the bike.
His team mate Ivo Monticelli could only manage 16th on his TM 250 which, after starting from the back of the grid cost him dear in the MX2. In the last heat of the Elite class, he crossed the line in 12th place taking the third best position of the MX2 class riders.
The "Internazionali d’Italia" races will end with the third round on the 17 February at the "Arco di Trento" track.
