Paulin 3rd in MX1 Championship
Thanks to the 7th place taken in the Benelux Grand Prix Paulin overtakes Pourcel in the championship standings.
Lierop (Holland), 2 September 2012 – The deep sand of the Lierop track that hosted the third from last round of the series brought the French Kawasaki rider Gautier Paulin back into contention with two good results leaving him third in the overall standings with two races to go.
A very satisfying result for the former BMX champion in his AGV AX-8 helmet. Although he lost some form in the middle of the season, he has now clearly rediscovered his rhythm and motivation and is back fighting for wins.
The Dutch event is without any doubt the most demanding of the year in terms of both physical stamina and mechanical preparation. The deep sand that constantly changes the layout puts both rider and machine to the hardest of tests.
His 4th place in qualifying allowed Paulin to start from a good position on the grid and in the first race he kept up a good pace to cross the line in fifth.
In the second race, he was held up by traffic at the third corner but fought his way back to 7th position only to lose two places due to a mistake on the last lap.
“Today I finished 7th overall" - said Gautier who will be wearing the Kawasaki colours again in 2013 – "I'm satisfied with the result considering how hard the race was and the very difficult surface we had to cope with". "I'm now in 3rd position in the overall standings and will do everything in my power to stay in this position in both Italy and Germany"
The 15th round of the World Championship will take place in Faenza on the 9 September with the Grand Prix of Europe.
