Philippaerts and AGV on the podium again in Brazil
Following his win of the Mexican round of the championship, Philippaerts took a superb second place here in the fifth round; Paulin also rode well to finish fourth.
Beto Carrero (Brazil), 20 May 2012 –Having broken the ice in Mexico, David Philippaerts again showed his true colours by finishing on the podium in the fifth round of the championship on this wonderful Brazilian track near the Beto Carrero Theme Park. The conditions were however extremely muddy due to a deluge. The treacherous conditions posed no problems for David Philippaerts who, with a second and sixth place, took second position on the MX1 podium. This was an excellent result for the official Yamaha rider and his AGV AX-8 EVO helmet. The rider from Tuscany earned his place by battling his way from sixth up to second position in the first race. In the second race, he had a poor start but, boosted by his current form, the world champion managed to work his way up from tenth to sixth at the chequered flag. These results move him up to sixth place in the overall championship only twelve points behind his closest rival. After an unfortunate round in Guadalajara in which he failed to start due to technical problems, Gautier Paulin was back to his usual form. The French Kawasaki rider took second place on Saturday's qualification race then kept up his good pace to finish third after a great comeback. In the second race, he fell and lost a lot of time but didn't give up. Once back in the saddle he found his rhythm to finish the fifth round ahead of Philippaerts. The sixth round will be held in France on 3 June at the St. Jean d’Angely track.
