02/05/2012 MX1 FERMO 22 APRIL 2012

A fall at the start of the second heat prevented the official Kawasaki rider from reaching the MX1 podium; unlucky Philippaerts who finished 8th.

Fermo (Macerata), 29 April 2012 – After a successful MX1 at the GP of Bulgaria, Gautier Paulin had all it takes to win again at the Marche circuit that hosted the Grand Prix of Italy. The French rider showed this by arriving first in the first qualifying heat on Saturday after a thrilling exchange of positions with compatriot Christophe Pourcel. The first heat saw another head-to-head conflict between the two Kawasaki riders, with Pourcel getting ahead in the final lap. Paulin didn’t manage to catch up because at the start of the second heat he slipped and managed to fight back from the last position to sixth place, finishing the day fourth overall with 35 points, maintaining second place in the world championship standings, where he is just 17 points away from Antonio Cairoli. It was a day with little satisfaction, however, for the other rider David Philippaerts competing in the premier class with the AGV AX-8 EVO. In fact, the Yamaha Monster Energy rider was hard hit just under his right eye by a stone during the first laps of the opening heat, and blurred visibility at times did not allow him to ride as best as he could. The Tuscan clenched his teeth, trying to hold on in both heats, crossing the finishing line first in ninth and then in eighth place; the position he also achieved in the overall standings of the day. The world championship riders will now move overseas to compete in the GP of Mexico on 13 May, and in the GP of Brazil the following weekend.
