On the new track in Wallonia, Gautier Paulin finishes 5th in the MX1 class due to a fall in the second heat; Philippaerts still 10th.
Bastogne (Belgium), 17 June 2012 – No podium this time for Gautier Paulin who, although having everything it takes to be one of the leaders of the Class, saw his chances slip away after an unlucky second heat. In the first heat, he rode spectacularly to take second place at the sixth lap behind Antonio Cairoli and he kept that position until the chequered flag. In the second heat however, the French rider made a bad start, had a fall and poor suspension settings compromised his race. He only managed ninth place after a series of highs and lows. Overall, Paulin finished in fifth place for the day but that wasn't enough to keep him in the third place in MX1 that he took after the Portuguese GP.
David Philippaerts too had a difficult day. He finished tenth again as in the previous round. He defended well in the first heat and got up to the middle of the pack as far as fifth place before dropping back two places to cross the line in a decent seventh position. The second heat was difficult to say the least following a bad start and a fall on the first lap that left him at the very back of the pack. He managed to make up ground however and finished thirteenth that let him keep his overall sixth place in the provisional standings of the Championship.
The next round will be held on July 1 in Sweden at the Uddevalla track about 100 km from Gothenburg.
