Paulin second in the Portuguese GP

In the seventh round of the MX1 World Championship, the French rider claimed second place while Philippaerts came home tenth.

Agueda (Portugal), 10 June 2012 – Second consecutive podium place for Gautier Paulin who yet again had an impressive run in the MX1 Grand Prix of Portugal. The official Kawasaki rider took second place on the podium after another exhilarating day that took him to third place in the provisional standings of the MX1 class. For Paulin, the first heat was fraught with difficulty due to damage sustained to his bike at the start following contact with another rider and he then had to contend with over-heating issues throughout the whole race. Despite this problem, Paulin managed to claw back the places he had lost at the start and came home fourth. In heat two, he was fighting for the lead for the whole race. Once up to second place, Paulin went head-to-head with the winner of the first heat, Clement Desalle, who he eventually passed half way through the race. From this stage on, he kept command of the race until three laps from the end when Antonio Cairoli passed him. The change of position however only lasted a few metres when Paulin then took back and kept the lead until the chequered flag. This win along, with his fourth place in the first heat, took him to second place for the day and one place higher in the Championship standings.

David Philippaerts had a less fortunate day with a crash just after the start of the first heat. The official Yamaha Monster Energy rider fought back from the back of the pack to finish twelfth. In the second heat, Philippaerts started from mid-field but clutch problems meant he could finish no better than ninth and so he gained the tenth place for the day.

The eighth round will take place next weekend at the new Belgian track of Bastogne on 17 June.
